My Work

I create bold, expressive art full of gorgeous color, whether that be landscapes, portraits or (mostly) abstracts. I am inspired by music, emotions, and the light in the sky (and the colors created), on water, on shapes and casting shadows. My aim in art is always to stay true to myself. I do this by getting quiet, asking for guidance and picking colors that speak to me. When needed, I use the tools I know from my years in psychology to hush my overly critical mind and create from a place of freedom and intuition. I want to evoke emotion in my paintings and I do this through the choice of color, tapping into my own emotion to paint expressively, and the use of soft blends of color next to raw gritty marks.

It has been my experience that when we connect intimately with a piece of art, we feel seen. We feel the artist has expressed something familiar that can’t be put into words; something we feel possibly on a spiritual level. My goal is for my art to have the impact of creating a pause in the viewers day to day life. A pause to notice the bold color, a drip that suddenly disappears, or a scratch under translucent color. Maybe this pause will lead to consideration of something deeper than what is at surface level.

My Story

Doodles and daydreams… that was my happy place as an introverted kid. Turns out, it still is. As an adult, I am fascinated by the human psyche and experience. This interest led me to get a Ph.D. in Health Psychology and work in this field for almost 20 years. Yet, the call to creativity never left me. There were the art history classes in college, oil painting classes in Atlanta, the weekend long painting sessions on my San Diego patio, and the drawing classes when my youngest turned one. The desire for more never went away. More painting, more solitude, more me.

Now, I am incredibly grateful that every day is spent delving into my own psyche this time through an exploration with paint. If I’m doing it right, my art parallels my personal journey towards a sense of truth and freedom. Currently, I live in Austin, Texas with my husband and kids. Dancing to live music makes me feel utterly free, a freedom that is only surpassed by how I feel when painting. My time in Austin has given me both. Lucky me! I create individual pieces, collections and commissions that I sell on my website and via Instagram.
